Eligibility

dMAT eligibility: who has to take it, and who does not.

The dMAT is not required of every APS applicant. It depends on two things only — the field of your bachelor's degree and the intake you are applying for — plus a set of cut-off dates that exempt anyone already inside the old process.

01Who it applies to

The two conditions, and the five exemptions.

Required

You need the dMAT only if both of these are true.

  1. 1Your bachelor's degree is in one of these fields:

    • Engineering
    • Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Economics
    • Business or Management

  2. 2You are targeting summer semester 2027 or later.

Exempt

You do not need the dMAT if any one of these applies:

  • You registered for APS online before 29 June 2026.
  • You submitted complete APS documents before 29 June 2026.
  • You received an APS certificate before 29 June 2026.
  • You are applying for a bachelor's or a PhD, not a master's.
  • Your degree is outside engineering, commerce, finance, economics, business and management.

The dMAT does not replace APS or anabin. It is one more document in your APS file. It is also not pass/fail — you receive a certificate with your result, and universities decide what weight to give it.

02What the result means

A document in your APS file, not a gate.

The dMAT produces a certificate with your result. It is not pass/fail, there is no qualifying mark, and a low score does not close your APS file. What it does is give German universities one more comparable signal alongside your transcripts.

It also does not replace anything. Your degree still has to be recognised through anabin, and APS still verifies your documents. The dMAT sits next to those steps, and its fee is charged on top of the APS fee.

If you are unsure whether your degree counts as one of the listed fields, the safe move is to ask APS India directly before you register — the classification is theirs, not your university's.
